Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure designed to treat infected or inflamed dental pulp (the inner part of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels). This condition most often occurs due to deep cavities, trauma, or other factors that damage the pulp.

Modern root canal treatment practices utilize a dental microscope, which allows the dentist to work with high precision and visibility. The microscope magnifies dental structures, significantly improving the quality of the procedure by enabling better cleaning and disinfection of the root canals, reducing the risk of missed areas or incomplete canal filling.

During the procedure, a rubber dam is also used – a thin rubber membrane that isolates the tooth from the surrounding environment. This ensures a sterile and dry working area, preventing saliva from entering the root canals and reducing the risk of infection. The rubber dam also helps avoid accidental ingestion of dental instruments or medications by the patient.

During the procedure, the dentist carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp, then cleans and disinfects the root canals. Afterward, the canals are filled with a special material that prevents future infections and ensures the stability of the tooth.

In some cases, for additional protection and restoration of functionality, the tooth may be finished with a crown.
