Root canal treatment
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure designed to treat infected or inflamed dental pulp (the inner part of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels). This condition most often occurs due to deep cavities, trauma, or other factors that damage the pulp.
Modern root canal treatment practices utilize a dental microscope, which allows the dentist to work with high precision and visibility. The microscope magnifies dental structures, significantly improving the quality of the procedure by enabling better cleaning and disinfection of the root canals, reducing the risk of missed areas or incomplete canal filling.
During the procedure, a rubber dam is also used – a thin rubber membrane that isolates the tooth from the surrounding environment. This ensures a sterile and dry working area, preventing saliva from entering the root canals and reducing the risk of infection. The rubber dam also helps avoid accidental ingestion of dental instruments or medications by the patient.
During the procedure, the dentist carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp, then cleans and disinfects the root canals. Afterward, the canals are filled with a special material that prevents future infections and ensures the stability of the tooth.
In some cases, for additional protection and restoration of functionality, the tooth may be finished with a crown.
Root canal treatment is typically painless thanks to local anesthesia and is an effective way to save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted. After successful treatment, the tooth can continue to function normally in the mouth, providing long-lasting relief from pain and preventing the spread of infection.
Advantages of using a dental microscope in root canal treatment
- Increased precision: The microscope provides high magnification, allowing the dentist to work with much greater accuracy and detect hard-to-reach areas in the root canals.
- Improved visibility: Enables clear and detailed visualization of the tooth’s internal structure, which is especially useful in complex cases with multiple canals or entangled roots.
- Reduced risk of errors: The magnified image reduces the likelihood of missing infections or failing to completely clean and fill the canal.
- Enhanced durability of treatment: With significantly better cleaning and filling of root canals, the treatment has a higher chance of success and long-term results.
- More comfort for the patient: The ability to perform more precise treatment means less intervention in healthy tissues, which reduces pain and recovery time.
- Minimal need for retreatment: Due to more effective diagnostics and treatment, the likelihood of requiring additional interventions or retreatment is significantly lower.
- Better communication with the patient: The microscope allows the dentist to show the patient images of the tooth’s condition, helping them better understand the necessary treatment.
At Denta Face Clinic, we use the latest generation dental microscope from the American company Global, featuring the highest level of magnification.
